Case Study

University Prep (U Prep) is a free charter school in the Denver Public Schools system. Its mission is to prepare their scholars for college and, most importantly, to pursue whatever dreams they may have. Historically, U Prep has relied on traditional forms of outreach like door knocking, word of mouth, and mail pamphlets to meet their enrollment goals. This year, due to the realities of COVID -19, their previous methods of outreach were severely hindered.


Through a partnership at U Prep, we were able to determine the most effective ways to reach new parents and increase enrollment for the 2020 fall semester.​ Over a period of 6 months and 2 campaigns, we were able to drive over 20,713 interested parents to our landing page which resulted in close to 300 enrollment conversations.


Our efforts have led to 95 (47% of all new U Prep student enrollments) families across the city to benefit from an outstanding education for their child - and most importantly, an opportunity to pursue the life they dream of with the tools needed to be successful.

Meet Our Team


Nick Brown

Nick Brown is a Co-founder of Effct.org, where he focuses on developing products and services as well as improving operations.


He is a former teacher with Teach For America in the Mississippi Delta, and The Fulbright Program in Colombia.


As a student at the University of Southern California, Nick tutored student athletes, sparking his interest in education. In his free time Nick likes to work out, journal and read.


Uriel Berrum

Uriel Berrum is Co-founder at Effct.org, where he leads business development and strategy.

Before joining the Effct team Uriel began his career as a credit risk analyst with Goldman Sachs. Uriel joined Effct in the summer of 2018 after working on tax and revenue policy with the Urban Leaders Fellowship.

Since his early years, Uriel has been mentored by David Singer, the founder of University Preparatory Schools in Denver, CO. This close relationship with David led to a partnership between U Prep and Effct.org to help the charter network increase enrollment during the
COVID-19 pandemic.


Berrum is a graduate of the University of Denver with distinction in Public Policy and Economics.

When Uriel is not serving his clients, he is traveling, learning music, and riding bikes.

Sean O'Carroll

Sean O'Carroll is the Digital Media Manager at Effct. He joined Effct ​after most recently serving as a Fulbright Scholar in Malaysia where he taught English.


Prior to his year in Southeast Asia, Sean found his passion for digital media during a Freeman-Asia Scholarship at Mizuno Corporation in Osaka, Japan.

Sean is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in International Business.

Sean dedicates his free time to mastering the Adobe Creative Suite and videography.


Molly Sughroue

Molly Sughroue is the Digital Media Associate. She joined Effct.org after working as the Editing and Design Specialist for GreenPlay, LLC, a parks and recreation consulting company. She also launched and managed the YouTube channel for GreenPlay's nonprofit sector. 


Molly graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.A. in Strategic Communication. She was a multiple time Academic All-American while competing on the University's track and field team and continues to train for the 2021 Olympic Trials.

Miles Iton

Miles Iton is Effct.org's Lead Contractor. Miles recently completed his Fulbright Scholarship in Taiwan where he also earned his Master’s. He also served as Student Body President at New College of Florida.


Miles brings outstanding video skills to our team. He produced an award-winning documentary short titled “Sincerely, The Black Kids” as a Fellow at the Sundance Institute.
